One of the best ways to increase the amount of habitable space inside the home is to make better use of areas that already exist. The loft is one such area, and most homeowners do little more than make it unorganised storage space for the personal belongings they no longer need. With nothing more than a little imagination and the talents of our builders and trades, you can transform your attic and benefit from one of our bespoke loft conversions.
Located in Ashington, Kirk Building & Carpentry can convert lofts in Haywards Heath, Horsham, Hove, Steyning and Storrington, and in all locations in the West Sussex area, working to a choice of flexible designs and styles.
These styles include
Whereas property extensions require you to sacrifice part of your garden for us to accommodate the build, loft conversions stay within the confines of a home’s original footprint. While some conversion styles require us to extend or to build upwards, most will fall within your permitted development rights.
This means you won’t need to deal with the minefield of planning permission.
Kirk Building & Carpentry brings all trades to the job, including builders with 50 years of combined experience supported by carpenters, joiners, electricians, plumbers and gas engineers, all of whom have earned their required trade qualifications and accreditations from organisations such as Gas Safe.
All loft conversions comply with the current UK Building Regulations.
Rooflight Conversions
The simplest of our loft conversion designs where we make no changes to the roofline but, if there is sufficient headroom available, our builders install new rooflight windows to give the attic plenty of natural light. This type of build lets you make full use of the available floorspace to use for whatever you wish.
Dormer Conversions
As one of the most common loft conversions built for UK homes, the dormer is a front, side or rear-facing addition to the roof to optimise the floorspace and increase the amount of headroom. This design is one our builders use for most properties, including terraced, detached, semi-detached and bungalows.
Mansard Conversions
Built across the roof plane so that our builders can create the largest amount of floorspace, mansard conversions are elegant additions that work well for period properties. With a flat roof above a wall with a 72° pitch, this is a style that gives the appearance of an extra storey in brickwork or slate cladding.
Hip-to-Gable Conversions
Suitable for detached and semi-detached homes, and for bungalows, hip-to-gable loft conversions require our team to extend the side of the roof slopes then upwards to the ridge to create a gable end. The extended front and back sections of the roof meet with the gable to optimise space and views.
Loft conversions tend to cause less disruption compared to having a property extension built because much of the initial work takes place through the roof. It isn’t until the later stages of a project in Haywards Heath, Horsham, Hove, Steyning, Storrington or West Sussex that we need to enter the home to make cosmetic finishes to the loft space, and to install a staircase or a loft ladder.
Different loft conversions will provide a different return on investment if you ever decide to sell your property but recent sales of three-bedroomed homes in the area with one bathroom have seen average gains of around 20%.
