The key to a successful building or landscaping project lies in the preparation, and our company sets up for the best possible results by offering a start-to-finish groundworks service that covers everything from clearing the site and the first dig to pouring foundations up to the damp proof course. In our role of general and new home builders, Kirk Building & Carpentry can speed up the groundworks phase by bringing plant and machinery to site, such as diggers, mini excavators, dumpers and tipper trucks, which also saves on hire costs.
Our customer-focused company trades out of Ashington and can offer a full groundworks service in the Haywards Heath, Horsham, Hove, Steyning and Storrington areas, as well as all locations across West Sussex.
The key elements of operational groundworks include:
Site Clearances
After an initial survey where we inspect the ground conditions, Kirk Building & Carpentry clears the site of scrub, vegetation and debris to facilitate building and landscaping work. Our workforce uses a combination of plant and hand tools to prepare the ground for all subsequent phases of construction.
The removal of uplifted waste is included in this stage of development.
Bulk Excavation
Using traditional and mini excavators to excavate in bulk, our builders dig to depths specified in the project’s design. After preparing the ground to allow for drainage works, our company provides a dedicated muck away service that sees uplifted spoil removed from site using tipper trucks from our fleet.
All muck away waste undergoes screening at dedicated local facilities.
Drainage
The next stage of the groundworks phase is to install drainage so that surface water can run off into the mains system to prevent water pooling. We can also install soakaways and make provisions for foul drainage. The objective here is to control the movement of water and to protect the foundations.
Our builders can make modifications to your existing drainage system too.
Strip Foundations
Kirk Building & Carpentry is especially proficient in strip foundations, a shallow foundation system that is best suited to low- and medium-rise builds such as new homes with one or two storeys, or to property extensions. This method is ideal for stable ground conditions that have good load-bearing capacities.
Strip foundations can be built quickly to make projects cost-effective.
Concrete Oversites
In the field of groundworks, concrete oversites are reinforced concrete layers laid beneath floors or slabs. By blocking ground and air moisture, a concrete oversite prevents ground disturbance to provide a harder and more level surface so that new flooring can be laid once the build has been finished.
Oversites can also sustain the weight of live loads and dead loads.
Block and Beam Floors
This is a flooring system created with precast concrete beams and blocks for domestic and commercial builds. Block and beam floors provide a cost- and labour efficient solution when a build requires a more solid flooring structure. Spaced at set intervals, the system offers primary support for a build’s floor.
Block and beam floors also offer excellent thermal and sound insulation.
Kirk Building & Carpentry is available to offer a tailored groundworks service in the Haywards Heath, Horsham, Hove, Steyning, Storrington and West Sussex areas using the skillsets of our own builders and trades. For the customer, it is best to think of groundworks as any part of the job specification that covers below-ground and ground-level operations for facilitating construction.
By getting a project off to the right start, we keep costs and timescales under full control for the full duration of any works specified in our quotation.
